What you can ask for
You can ask for a pregnancy test, and you can ask for an ultrasound. Both are on Mosaic Virginia's list of services, and both cost you nothing.
The ultrasound is the one that confirms the pregnancy and shows how far along you are. That matters, because how far along you are is what changes which options are open to you.
You can ask about STI testing too, and about your options, and about the services they offer for men. Mosaic Virginia says all information shared is kept completely confidential, and that it provides services without discrimination to people of any age, race, income or nationality.
If you are weighing your options, what Virginia law allows right now is set out further down this page, with the source and the date behind each line.
Abortion laws in Virginia
As of July 2026, abortion is legal in Virginia and is broadly available through the second trimester. A third-trimester limit permits abortion later only when the pregnant person's life or health is at risk. Virginia has no mandatory waiting period and no ultrasound mandate; standard medical informed consent applies. State law requires parental consent or a court order, plus notice, before an unemancipated minor obtains an abortion, with a judicial-bypass option. This is general information, not legal advice; laws can change.
- Legality / gestational limit:Abortion is legal in Virginia and is broadly available through the second trimester. In the third trimester it is allowed when the physician and two consulting physicians certify that continuing the pregnancy is likely to result in the woman's death or substantially and irremediably impair her mental or physical health. Virginia law separately allows a physician to act to save a woman's life.
- Mandatory waiting period:Virginia does not require a mandatory waiting period before an abortion. An earlier 24-hour waiting period and ultrasound requirement were repealed in 2020.
- Parental involvement (minors):If you are an unemancipated minor, Virginia requires the consent of an authorized person, or a judge's authorization instead. An authorized person is a parent, a legal guardian or custodian, or someone standing in the place of a parent, including a grandparent or adult sibling you regularly live with who has care of you. Notice and consent are part of the same step rather than two separate hurdles. Consent and notice are not required at all if you say you are abused or neglected and the doctor has reason to suspect it, or in a medical emergency.
- Required information / consent:Virginia requires standard medical informed consent between patient and provider. There is no state-scripted counseling requirement and no ultrasound mandate.
- Medication and telehealth:Medication abortion is legal in Virginia. Advanced practice clinicians may dispense medication abortion, and the physical presence of a prescribing clinician is not required.

I had a wonderful experience at Mosaic. From the moment I walked in, the environment was warm, welcoming, and comfortable. The medical services I received were helpful, informative, and gave me the information I needed to make informed decisions. The client advocate and nurse were compassionate, professional, and made me feel comfortable sharing my needs and concerns without feeling judged. What I appreciate most about Mosaic is the genuine support they provide. They truly care about the people they serve, and I always felt heard, respected, and cared for. I highly recommend Mosaic to anyone looking for a supportive and compassionate place.
